Dr.Tom O Okurut (Phd) - Executive Director
Tom O Okurut, a Ugandan born in 1960, is a holder of a PhD degree in Environment Science and Technology from IHE-Delft and University of Wagenigen, The Netherlands. He is an Environment Resources Management specialist with seventeen year’s practical work experience in the environment and water resources sector and mostly within the Lake Victoria Basin. His expertise spans in the areas of project management & formulation; implementation, monitoring and evaluation; resource mobilization from multi-donor agencies; environment regulatory processes; environmental assessments; research and development. Prior to this appointment Dr Okurut worked as a Program Officer and Head of the Lake Victoria Development Programme division of the East African Community Secretariat. He also worked in Uganda with the Lake Victoria Environment Management Project as a Coordinator for the Industrial and Municipal Waste Management Component; a Water Quality and R& D Manager with National Water and Sewerage Corporation and; a Lecturer at Makerere University. |

Joy Kagoda - Senior Personal Secretary
Joy joined NEMA in April, 1996 as a Divisional Secretary attached to the Office of the Deputy Executive Director. In November, 2001, she was promoted to the position of Senior Personal Secretary in the Office of the Executive Director She holds a Degree in Office Management and Secretarial Studies, Nkumba University. She initially undertook her Secretarial training at the former Uganda College of Commerce, Nakawa; and the In-Service Training Centre, Kampala. She has attended professional programmes like the East and South African Management Institute (ESAMI) Programme for Executive Assistants in Mbabane, Swaziland.Her duties and responsibilities in the Office of the Executive Director chiefly involve overall provision of administrative/secretarial duties including administrative arrangements for Board, Policy Committee on the Environment and other high level meetings.

Rhona Namara- Senior Personal Secretary
Rhona Joined NEMA in 1996 as a Departmental Secretary, and she worked under the Department of Environmental Awareness and Training. In 2005, she was promoted to the post of Senior Personal Secretary in the Office of the Deputy Executive Director. She holds a Bachelors degree of Business Administration from Cyprus Institute of Marketing and an Advanced Diploma in Secretarial Studies of Temple College, Nairobi. She has also taken professional courses and obtained a Diploma in Marketing Management at the Cyprus Institute of Marketing, the East and South African Management Institute (ESAMI) Programme for Executive Assistants in Mbabane, Swaziland and a Certificate in Records Management from Management Training and Advisory Centre (MTAC).In 2003, she was recognised by NEMA as the 2nd overall outstanding employee of the year. |

Kasekende Mujuzi - Director Finance and Administration He joined NEMA in February 2008 as Director Finance and Administration. He holds a Masters Business Administration Degree from Uganda Martyrs University, A Bachellor of Commerce ( Accounting) from Makerere University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Information Technology. He is a full Member of ACCA and ICPAU. He has had training in Procurement and Supplies Chain Fraud Management and Financial Management in World Bank Funded Projects. Herbert joined NEMA in 2003 as a Research Assistant in charge of Database and became a project Assistant in charge of UNEP/GOU Integrated Assessment of EU-ACP Economic Partnership Agreement on Uganda's Biodiversity. Dr. Festus Bagoora joined NEMA in June 1996, as a Natural Resource management Specialist, Soils and Land-use, after working in the Government of Uganda Civil Service as a Senior and later Principal Environment Officer from 1989 to 1995. He holds a Ph. D in Environmental Science of Makerere University, and a Master of Science from the University of Toronto, Canada, specializing in Environmental and Hydro-Geomorphology, Soils and Land Management. Also, in 1991, Dr. Bagoora undertook a British Council Sponsored Professional Research training in Climate Change and Land Resource Assessment at the University of East Anglia, England. He has, also, trained and obtained certificates in various areas of Environmental Management and other related disciplines. |

Kasedde Christine Abonyo - Environment Impact Assessment Officer (EIAO)
Christine Kasedde is employed at NEMA, as Environment Impact Assessment Officer (EIAO) since July 2008. She holds a Msc. in Environment and Natural Resources, a PGD in EIA and is a graduate scientist of Forestry. As an EIAO, she is responsible but not limited to review of TORs, Project Briefs and EIA Reports submitted to NEMA for consideration of environmental aspects, thus, providing technical guidance in the area of Environment Impact Assessment. Additionally, as a Focal Point Officer for the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), Christine handles day to day issues related to Uganda meeting her obligation to Stockholm Convention. |
