NATIONAL STATE OF ENVIRONMENT REPORT FOR UGANDA 2007/2008 This year 2008, Uganda like any country in the world is facing many challenges resulting from the global financial crisis,
commonly referred to as the “credit crunch”. The interconnection of our economies and the lack
of liquidity on the world market has resulted in massive job losses and the closure of some companies,
challenging our commitment to climate change and environment. The year 2008 saw oil prices reach a record
high of about US$150 per barrel that induced the need to reduce on the dependence on fossil fuel consumption
and explore cleaner technologies that promote sustainability. However, the recent drop in the world oil prices
may reverse the gains that have been achieved in exploring the feasibility of using alternative fuels from the
conventional fossil fuels.
